April started out in healthcare and worked there for 13 years and was able to retire from flip income. Going from healthcare to real estate was confusing at first because she thought she couldn’t help people in business as she just left a job where she helped people all the time. She’s co-GP’d a few syndications since and now owns a couple of small multifamily projects. Her 2022 word is “impact” which is why she tries very hard to make a positive impact on everyone. She bootstrapped all the houses they flipped for a while until they were able to utilize other people’s skills to help their operation. Her first multifamily property was a 6-unit with her father-in-law. After the market busted in 2008, they bought a lot of rental properties with a private money lender. She eventually became a private money lender herself and was asked to speak to others in Tennessee about private money lending. This lead to her meeting her business partner at one of the events she spoke at. April had a passion to build affordable housing and because of her business partner, she was exposed to an opportunity after a few years to invest in a mobile home park. She is passionate about helping seniors who are homeless to help get them into houses. Through being connected to her grandmother, she saw the potential that she would have to live in a retirement home that wouldn’t take great care of her. This is what drew her into wanting to advocate for seniors. She always chases what brings her joy. From a teenage mom on welfare, she is now a certified millionaire.
